The song, "Get Out," has great harmonies, percussive beats, and a fantastic acoustic guitar solo. What makes "The Song Begins..." such a great CD of American show tune-inspired music is the realization Casey Erin Clark had as much fun recording it as we do listening to it. With a voice redolent of the Broadway vernacular, it should come as no surprise that she is working in theater in New York, even starring in a few Off-Broadway shows. Some tracks are even showcases of brand new songs from rising composers. On the CD-opener, "Real New Yorker Now," Clark blows you away with her strong, pitch perfect voice. "Murder! He Says" is another vocal highlight, a terrific jazz trio number with bounce and melody. But what's most important is staying passionate and entertaining, and that is really what Casey Erin Clark's "The Song Begins..." CD accomplishes.

Like a sunset on the beaches of Hawaii, "What You Talkin' About," the new CD by Tom Cherry and Friends, offers all the warmth and comfort of a Hawaiian breeze over the course of 10 songs as engaging as they are relaxing. With a sound anchored deep in '70's soft-rock waters, Cherry's smooth-as-sand-pebble voice is right at home on light and breezy R&B like pop songs of love and romance, and the channels our emotions navigate. The CD opener, "Sweet Honey" has all the earmarks, with its accented guitar fills and funky bass style. Further along, such '70's stalwarts as Michael Franks and Al Jarreau are convincingly conjured on tunes like "Driving to Lahaina" and "I Believe in Me" as Cherry and Friends mirror R&B / contemporary jazz veins of inspiration. The 70's ushered in a genre – soft rock, to take the place that easy listening once described: relaxed, polished and melodious music for adults who preferred their background music comfortably familiar. The soft rock moniker eventually gave way to adult contemporary but the aesthetic remained the same. "Ultimate I & B," a veritable "best of" CD (compiled from 3 previous albums) by Zhonray is a fine example of this genre, reminding listeners of adult contemporary finest practitioners (Air Supply, Seals & Crofts, America, etc) without losing its own identity. RadioIndy is pleased to present Milestone with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Medley"

Easy listening instrumentals are abounding on Milestone's newest record, "Medley." Although the album does have faint hints of 1980's tones (i.e. Philip Glass), the record is quite contemporary and a good listen as well. The opening track, "Towards the Unknown," sets the overall mood and gives a taste of what's to come. A wall of synthesizers and pianos make up most of these rainy day numbers and are sometimes highlighted by some nice guitar fills. A great example of this would be on "In the Memory of Heroes" and "Half-way Behind." Milestone has done a terrific job in choosing the instrumentation wisely as this paints the tone color pallet that "Medley" offers up. This album is a great buy for anyone wanting some relaxing tunes to de-stress to or is just looking for some top notch instrumental music.

David Hansen's "All That I Could Give-New Edition" is a wonderful piece of music that really delivers to the adult contemporary crowd. Although his background is strongly rooted in jazz music, Hansen throws out more of an adult pop punch on his most recent effort. On the title track "All That I Could Give" screams of classic James Taylor vocal approach and is smooth and silky in style. If you are looking for some soothing jazz then "Love In Three Days" is a good track to check out. It features some very well polished jazz flute riffs and invites you into the artist true musical taste. This CD could easily be spun on any light rock radio station today and is a great listen. Should you find yourself wanting to hear something new and in the musical style of James Taylor or Steve Winwood then "All That I Could Give- New Edition" is a CD you will want to add to your collection.

The 70's ushered in a genre – soft rock, to take the place that easy listening once described: relaxed, polished and melodious music for adults who preferred their background music comfortably familiar. The soft rock moniker eventually gave way to adult contemporary but the aesthetic remained the same. "Ultimate I & B," a veritable "best of" CD (compiled from 3 previous albums) by Zhonray is a fine example of this genre, reminding listeners of adult contemporary finest practitioners (Air Supply, Seals & Crofts, America, etc) without losing its own identity. Lush synthesizer flourishes on "In the Shadow of Fallen Love," while Zonhray delivers spare and tasteful guitar fills such as the Spanish guitar runs on "Golden Sands." Take note of the subtle conga interpolations on "Blossom Hill," or relax to the sounds of nature on "Summer Rain," or even a hint of Chris Isaaks-like tremolo guitar "Shine Your Smile on Me." Zonhray swathes its sedate tunes of the trials and triumphs of love and romance on their "Ultimate I & B" CD in arrangements that go down like the proverbial taste of honey.

With a unique blend of violin, cello, viola, guitar, and world percussion the tracks on this CD have a very rich and instrumentally layered sound. There is a strong rhythmic backing to these songs and a unique sound. The CD is energetic and filled with vibrant and upbeat instrumental arrangements. Take for example the titled track "The Sacred Fire" as the burning runs on the strings gives spirited life to this dynamic piece. Feel the rhythmic beats of the percussion as it swirls around the strings on "Fireflies." The production behind the album is top-notch. It is skillfully mixed and mastered with the vocals up front and well represented instrumentation behind. Talented vocalist Al Sofia shares his love for pop/easy listening music with his latest disc, "Destiny." With hints of Bobby Darin and Michael Buble, Sofia delivers an exceptional disc of both originals and cover songs. The title track "Destiny" shows his knack for creative songwriting and has that Philadelphia soul vibe to it. Although the album does feature some great original work, it is Sofia's covers that really shine through. Taking someone else's music and making it your own is never easy, but Sofia does it with ease on songs such as "You Raise Me Up" (popularized by Josh Groban). There are also some jazzy takes on well known Broadway numbers like "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent and "It's Possible" from Suessical. "Destiny" is a great album for any fan of Hall & Oates or Michael Buble and is well worth listening to.

"One Million Words" is the excellent easy listening debut thirty years in the making from Brazilian artist Chuck Eaton. This album's theme is love, as Eaton sings twelve original and romantic songs of love and passion, mood-setters written for lovers to listen to together. The entire album is written and performed by Eaton, which includes vocals and piano, guitar, and drum arrangements. These arrangements are solid with well-crafted piano work and terrific guitar solos, and show Eaton's skill in musical layering. Eaton's vocals are unique, sounding like a combination of an easy listening version of Paolo Nutini with traces of solo John Lennon. "One Million Words" is well-produced, and the entire album sounds clean and professional. "Wedding Rings" begins with a nice piano, drum, and guitar arrangement, then moves into a song about falling in love and begging for forgiveness. "Our Love Is Precious" starts with a great electric guitar solo over acoustic guitar and drums, and features more catchy and heartfelt lyrics about falling in love. Overall, "One Million Words" is a great love-themed album well worth the wait. Anyone who enjoys poppy, easy listening songs about love should check out "One Million Words."

With the help of an acoustic guitar, a flute, and and various orchestral string elements, Dransfield has arranged eleven piano-fueled easy listening gems, many of which have great jazz elements incorporated into them. This is great mood music for introspection, meditation, and relaxation as Dransfield's heartfelt, inspirational, and oftentimes spiritual melodies soar off of the ivory. "The Innocence" is well-produced, so the instrumentation sounds clean and absolutely professional. "I Like To Look For Rainbows" introduces the album with a great melodic piano arrangement with an acoustic guitar and cello accompaniment. It is composed with such inspiration and spirituality that it feels like a church service hymn. "On a Golden Springtime" has a Brubeck-esque piano arrangement with great jazz elements and a light string backing. Overall, "The Innocence" is an excellent album with great, heartfelt arrangements from an extremely talented pianist and composer. "Singing the Great American Songbook" by jazz vocalist Ron Kaplan (for the American Songbook Preservation Society) is a live CD capturing the performance of a benefit concert given by Mr. Kaplan at The Kuumbwa Jazz Center on January 25, 2007. Kaplan is joined by the stellar musicians Marshall Otwell on the piano and Stan Poplin on bass. This release captures the sound and spirit of this live show beautifully, with each musician shining both individually and collectively. Kaplan has a gentle, swinging style of phrasing and his sidemen provide wonderful support and solos throughout. They begin the set with spirited interpretations of Duke Ellington's "Drop Me Off in Harlem" and "Solitude," with Kaplan in fine form. Otwell provides intelligent figures and swinging solos over Poplin's steady bass. Also included is a great rendition of Cole Porter's "I Get a Kick Out of You," with Kaplan's vocals dancing on top of the rhythmic piano of Otwell, anchored by the solid bass lines of Poplin. Another highlight is an enchanting version of Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer's "Out of This World," with soaring vocals from Kaplan and fiery solos by both Otwell & Poplin. A touching interpretation of the jazz ballad "Willow Weep for Me" showcases the trio's sensitivity. The trio closes the night with a playful performance of George & Ira Gershwin's "Love Is Here to Stay," with lively vocals from Kaplan and splashy solos contributed from both Otwell and Poplin. This concert and album is a great example of timeless material performed by three extremely talented musicians; a wonderful contribution to the Great American Songbook. Fans of male jazz vocals in the style of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett will want to check "Singing the Great American Songbook" out.

"Soundbox" is a great smooth jazz/instrumental pop album from The Monty Casper Project. British Columbia multi-instrumentalist Monty Casper plays all of the instruments on this album, showing his tremendous piano talent, as well as his crafty work on drums, guitar, and horns. The songs are all instrumental and inspired by classic pop instrumentals of the '60s, '70s, and '80s from the likes of Herb Alpert and George Benson. The songs themselves are all Monty Casper originals, though he draws from the aforementioned pop instrumentalists to give the songs a certain timelessness to them. "Soundbox" is well-produced, and the entire album sounds professional, the instrumentation clean and well-layered. "Marimba Coffee Break" has a solid arrangement with a rhythmic drum beat and acoustic guitar in the background and skillful marimba work at the forefront. "Random Thoughts" shows Casper's prowess as a pianist and has a great timeless sound to it. "Searchlight" features the unique sound of the harpsichord and nice drum work. Overall, "Soundbox" is a solid effort that any fan of smooth jazz or '60s to '80s instrumental pop will surely enjoy.

"Reflection" is the impressive adult contemporary/easy listening debut that features the outstanding vocals of Melbourne, Australia's own Jennie Mortimer. This album features mostly easy listening and theatrical classics, with the exception of the improbable closer, a great easy listening variation on Evanescence's "My Immortal." The arrangements are either reshaped into, or replicated as great classical, big band, and jazz compositions that perfectly match Mortimer's adult contemporary and musical theatre vocals. "Reflection" is well-recorded, and the entire album sounds nothing but professional. "You Took Advantage of Me" is a great take on a classic featuring great big band horns, jazz piano and drum, a smooth sax solo, and a great vocal performance. "Luck Be a Lady" pays respect to the Guys & Dolls classic with an over the top theatrical arrangement, a nice beat, and another great vocal performance. "Reflection" is really about the stunning vocals of Jennie Mortimer and while her tributes are great, she could sing just about anything and dazzle her audience. Fans of adult contemporary, easy listening, and great female vocalists should definitely look into this album.

"Mainstream" marks the twenty-second Christian adult contemporary release from singer/songwriter and former American Idol contestant Drew Pizzulo. Seasoned musicians Anderson Barbosa, Rick Barclay, and Donnie Klang lent Pizzulo a hand in recording the arrangements and fully realizing the sound he had dreamt up for each track. As one might suspect, "Mainstream" is filled with poppy songs with catchy lyrics about love, faith, and dreaming. All of Pizzulo's recordings have been self-released, and "Mainstream" is no exception; with that being said, it sounds great and clean. "Music From the Creator" by Asiyah is an incredible two CD set of spiritual songs and verses that spans a variety of genres. What makes this album incredible is the amount of thought that went into it. Asiyah takes the ancient notion that God gave each Hebrew letter a musical vibration, uses the Hebrew text of Biblical verses to create a letter-by-letter song notation, and adapts them instrumentally to fit contemporary music genres, including Latin, rock, reggae, jazz, blues, ambient, and classical. The odd numbered tracks on the album are spoken word and recite the Biblical verse in Hebrew, and Psalms in song form. The even tracks that follow take the letter-by-letter notation and make an original and enjoyable song out of it. The recording quality is great, clean and polished, so that the spoken word tracks could be completely understood by a Hebrew linguist. "From the Dust" brings Genesis 2:7-8 to life with a great reggae sound, including the steel drum and a nice arrangement. "Lifted Up" has a great Latin rock flare with the use of shakers, marimba and electric guitar following the notes of Isaiah 6:1. "Shall Come to Pass" is an excellent standard jazz adaptation of Isaiah 4:3, with great jazz piano, solo guitar, and rhythmic drums. "Music From the Creator" is certainly an in-your-face spiritual experience, but its method and the sheer enjoyability of the songs the selected verses help create has an appeal to both the secular and non-secular world. Perhaps, through its beauty, it will awaken a little spirituality in all of us.

"EarthTones II" is an inspiring easy listening album from a talented group of musicians in Pamela Weng and Friends. Weng and her thirteen friends hail from eight distinct cultures, each member bringing a unique interpretation of music to the project. Collectively, they are a musically sound group with a gratuitous amount of musical chemistry, and they take the listener all around the world with the sounds they create. Musically, Weng and friends are in touch with nature and quite literally create the tones of the earth in the most eclectic of ways. Weng's vocal appears on a couple of tracks, "They Slice The Air – poem," which has a sort of speakeasy feel, and "Garden of Stars," which is a beautiful and inspiring strong vocal performance. "EarthTones II" is well-produced and does justice to the hard work and enormous amount of creativity that went into the album. "Crescent Moon" introduces the album with a slow alternation between the piano and Native American flute backed by slow waves created by successive taps on a cymbal. "Orion the Hunter" is a great jazz number introduced with a piano solo then turns into an all-out jam with shakers, drums, flute, and guitar. "Outback Ochre" and "Outback" both incorporate the didgeridoo to make the listener one with Australian nature. "EarthTones II" is a great easy listening album with a fascinating blend of cultures and musicians from all around the world. Fans of inspiring easy listening and great musical collaboration, this one is a must.

"…Miles and Miles…" is an excellent easy listening album with elements of pop, country, and rock by Zhonray. Here, Zhonray brings an adult contemporary concept album and incorporates a wide range of instruments throughout to bring you an original and unique sound. The idea of freedom from the material world is ever present in the lyrics and the compositions are superb. The overall sound is very aurally pleasing, as Zhonray incorporates wind chimes, sitar, and slide guitar all into the same album and, in turn, achieves musical diversity. His vocals have a very distinct quality to them, but on a song like "Just a Chance," with the right accompaniment and inflection, the vocal performance is similar to Belle & Sebastian. The recording quality of "…Miles and Miles…" is good and ready to hit the radio airwaves – in fact, the track "Mile and Mile3" was recorded for that very purpose. "Summer Rain" has a world pop feel with the incorporation of the sitar, effective lyrics, and a nice arrangement. "In Nobody's Way" is a heartbreakingly poetic and lyrically slow rock song about letting someone go. With "…Miles and Miles…," Zhonray has created an idealistic album filled with diverse adult contemporary arrangements and strong lyrics. Fans of consequential easy listening will drift away for "…Miles and Miles…" with this impressive CD by Zhonray.
